The iPSC-ESC gap

The iPSC-ESC gap
This link to a news piece in The Scientist is about a paper showing the induced pluripotent stem cells (adult stem cells reprogrammed to have embryonic stem cell characteristics) are not completely like true embryonic stem cells. While some may see this as ammunition against using these types of cells in therapeutic applications, ultimately it should just lead to better success at using them. The more we understand about these cells the more we are likely to figure out ways that they can be used in place of embryonic stem cells.
