Hybrid Sharks

http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/first-ever-hybrid-shark-discovered-off-australia/2012/01/03/gIQAPy00YP_story.html

Here is another shark related topic.  I found this a couple of weeks ago and thought it was interesting.  It is somewhat related to the coral paper we read.  Genetically, these sharks are like one species, but they look like another species.  Researchers think this may be happening because of climate change.  Its also fascinating because hybrids in the wild aren't that common.

  1. Very interesting. I wonder what the implications will be - will they at some point fully hybridize? I also wonder if this has happened before and went unnoticed? This again seems to question our species concept.
