Exercise Alters Epigenetics

Doctors have always said that exercise and a healthy lifestyle will reduce your risk of type II diabetes, but now there is molecular evidence of how this works. This article describes research that shows that lack of excersice methylates DNA regions that encode transcription factors involved in glucose transport and mitochondria regulation. These findings are not only important for understanding diabetes, but they also suggest that methylation, thought to be a stable process, can be a very dynamic process.
