The Ghost In Your Genes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehwFVgQ82ZY

This is an excellent and timely documentary that touches on various studies in the efflorescent field of epigenetics.

I looked it up because it touches on the remote town in northern Sweden that I had mentioned in class the other day, but there are so many interesting topics in this documentary, particularly studies that are applicable to our class topic (perhaps some groups could find some interesting ideas for their presentations).

In particular, Professor Wolf Reik is interviewed about his sci-fi-like work where he physically turns on and off genes in mouse embryos and even takes it a step further when he shows how these switches can then be inherited.

This is such an exciting time in history and *we* get participate in this paradigm shift in scientific thinking! Epigenetics will change the way the causes of disease are viewed, as well as the importance of lifestyles and family relationships. What people do no longer just affects themselves, but can determine the health of their children and grandchildren in decades to come.
