Engineered Immune Cells

I found this article to be fascinating. Researchers were able to genetically engineer T cells to find and destroy certain types of leukemia. The immune system can be a powerful ally to cancer patients if it can be manipulated to work effectively.

  1. This is wonderful! And the good thing about this process is that the target cell is specified to only B cells, rather than to many cells. They do need to perform a larger clinical trial for this; hopefully, they can soon. The results for that fifth patient does make me wonder if this is effective enough, since it was only a group of five.

My grandpa had passed away from leukemia; this would have been a ray of hope, if they had discovered this several years ago--particularly, in the few years before his death.
